I spent over five minutes desperately trying to explain to my family that I wasn't going crazy.
They both seemed skeptical, but they finally calmed down after I promised to demonstrate the ability in front of them as soon as it was available again.
"Now that I think about it," Himawari began, "there was someone at school today who was making a fuss about being able to use skills, just like you, Onii-chan. We're in different years, so I don't know much, but it seems like he caused some kind of commotion."
"That means he might have suddenly awakened a skill, just like me. Mine came out of nowhere, too."
"This isn't some kind of mass hypnosis, is it?"
"You still don't believe me? Mass hypnosis? Really? That's definitely impossible. You should check the posts online later - there seem to be quite a few people out there who've experienced the same thing."
Thinking about it calmly, I couldn't blame them for being skeptical. It's not every day that someone in your family suddenly claims to have gained psychic abilities. Maybe I'd been a little too excited yesterday.
Even after I got back to my room, I kept staring at my smartphone screen, but nothing changed until I fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up and immediately opened the screen.
"Ohhhhhh! Just as I thought! It's once a day!"
The words "Gacha-1" appeared on the screen again.
I was afraid that the skill was gone forever, but seeing the number 1 again filled me with relief.
I rushed to the living room and called my family together.
"Mikado-kun, are you really going to do this?" my mother asked.
"I told you yesterday," I replied.
"Mikado-kun, this better not be a joke," Dad warned.
"Of course it's not. Now, please watch carefully. Here I go."
I tapped "Gacha-1" on my smartphone screen again.
"It's not just food this time..."
"Onii-chan, what happened?" Himawari asked curiously.
"Ah, yes, it's done. I'll put it out now."
When I tapped on the collection section of the screen, a red frying pan materialized in front of me.
"A frying pan?"
"Yeah, looks like it."
"You're kidding... but it really appeared."
"Magic... is this magic?"
"No, I don't think it's magic in the traditional sense. I can't summon something as big as a frying pan by myself."
"So you can really use abilities now?"
"It's more of a skill than magic, I guess."
"I see. But what's the purpose? Just to summon frying pans? Are we going to sell them?"
"No, I can only use it once a day."
"I see. Well, sometimes strange things happen."
Their reactions to this paranormal phenomenon were surprisingly muted.
Perhaps the summoning of a frying pan wasn't impressive enough. It was hard to judge its value. Unlike bread roll, where you could taste its quality, a frying pan didn't immediately show its value.
I began to wonder: is the gacha completely random, or is there some kind of food-related logic to it? I decided to test it over the next few days.
But while my life with skills was just beginning, the rest of the world was already in chaos.
People with similar abilities to mine were appearing not only in Japan, but all over the world. Social media was flooded with posts and even live videos of people using their newfound abilities.
The mysterious phenomenon quickly escalated into a global sensation, making headlines everywhere.
