Fortunately, no dungeons appeared near my area during the First Rift, so there was no noticeable damage.
And since there were skill holders in Japan who had acted as sabers during the First Rift, it was quickly decided that all skill holders from across the country would be gathered in preparation for future attacks.
Like me, their statuses were invisible to others, and applications were self-reported. However, a considerable number of skilled candidates volunteered for the exceptionally generous offer of 1 million yen a month and guaranteed housing in exchange for fulfilling the role of Saber.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by the 1 million yen, but my skills aren't suited for combat, no matter how you look at it. Or rather, I'm completely useless against monsters, so I didn't think it was my place, and of course I didn't apply.
While the Saber system was being organized in Japan, a foreign country had gone one step further. Their military, including sabers, began to enter dungeons.
The inside of the dungeon was layered, just like a game world. As they explored it, they fought many monsters and made a world-shaking discovery.
When Sabers defeat monsters, they level up. It sounds like a joke, but it turns out that leveling up actually improves their stats.
I still use the gacha once a day, regardless of dungeons or monsters, but sadly, I haven't received anything beyond everyday items since the magic stone.
And there was another change. After the first break, the number of people who could use skills increased rapidly.
"Onii-chan, I think I've become able to use skills as well."
"Maybe it's because you can see your status now?"
"Yes, it seems that way."
"What are your skills?"
"Um, 'Gravity 3' and 'Iron Strike 3."
"What?! You can use two?"
"Yeah, it seems like it."
It seems that Himawari has finally awakened to skills. And two of them!
It feels like a good thing, but I suddenly feel uneasy. Could this situation lead to Himawari becoming a Saber as well?
"Himawari, about becoming a Saber..."
"I won't. I can't do that."
"You're right. It's best not to overdo it."
"Have you already tried to use your skills?"
"No, I think it's better if you're with me."
"That's right. Let's try it somewhere safe."
'Gravity' and 'Iron Strike', huh? From what I've heard, they sound like attack skills.
We went outside to a secluded area, making sure there was no one around, and I asked Himawari to test her skills.
"Himawari, imagine the skill and tap the screen of your smartphone."
"What do you think 'Gravity' and 'Iron Strike' should look like?"
"Hmm, I guess 'Gravity' has something to do with crushing or pulling? And 'Iron Strike' would be throwing or smashing something with iron."
"Okay. I'll give it a try."
With that, Himawari tapped her smartphone screen.
