"Listen up, everyone. I've actually become a Saber! Since there are very few Sabers in this area, I've been allowed to continue attending this school. I'll protect everyone, so if anything happens, leave it to me!"
"Wow, that's amazing, Omae-kun! I was so worried, but now I feel so much better," Kinoshita said.
"Yes, Kinoshita, you can count on me."
"Omae-kun, will you protect me as well?"
"Haha, of course I will. I'm a Saber!"
"Omae, do you really get 1 million yen a month for being a Saber?"
"Yeah, I guess so."
"You're so lucky! I'm jealous."
"Don't say that. If a monster shows up, I'll have to fight it, so it's not all fun and games."
"Yes, but still... thank you for protecting us."
"Leave it to me!"
When I arrived at school that morning, my classmate Omae proudly announced that he had become a Saber.
Since both Himawari and I had activated our abilities, it wasn't surprising to learn that someone else in the area had as well. But 'Saber?'
Omae was slightly above average in our class-not particularly athletic or skilled in martial arts. I couldn't imagine him fighting monsters, even with a powerful ability.
Sure, he might have manifested some incredible ability, but does he really plan to fight when monsters appear?
I'd like to think that he could protect me, but honestly, I had a hard time imagining it.
"Mikado, can you believe that Omae is a Saber?"
"Yeah, it looks like it."
"It would be so cool if I could use a skill. I'd be popular, rich, and living the dream life."
"Maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be. I mean, you'd still be dealing with monsters."
"True. Hey, didn't you mention something about your status earlier?"
"No, you must have misunderstood."
"I guess so. If I had a skill, I'd be a Saber by now."
Not every skill is suitable for combat. There must be many people like me whose skills are useless in a fight.
"Can I ask what your skill is, Omae-kun?"
"Sure. My skill is called 'Wind Blast."
"Wind magic?!"
"Not exactly. It's more like an air cannon."
"Wow, that's incredible! Like something out of a sci-fi movie!"
"Yeah, you could say that."
An air cannon? That sounds like something that could blow away enemies, but could it really defeat monsters?
No, Omae must be skilled if he was chosen as a Saber. I should stop being so skeptical.
The world is dark enough as it is, I need to stay positive.
By the way, my gacha draw this morning rewarded me with Shine Muscat grapes.
In another context, that might have been a jackpot. Here, though, it's just... grapes.
